Shift Your Shopping Challenge

Picture
This holiday season the City of Stanton Tourism and Convention Commission urges the public to think about their shopping habits and asks consumers to make the pledge to shift some of their holiday shopping to local establishments.  When holiday shopping money is spent at a national chain store or online it does not benefit the local community to the same extent that local purchases do.  When money is spent locally it gets recirculated into the local economy and generates two to three times as much economic activity.  Take the pledge to shift at least 10% of you holiday shopping budget to local establishments.  Just a small shift of $50 to local establishments during the holiday shopping season would result in over $200,000 being infused back in the community.  Explore your community to find items locally.  Try with the gifts for family, food items for your holiday meals and a shift to local gift certificates rather than gift cards.  This year, there are 31 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, let’s find a day to explore what is being offered by retailers in our own communities.
